Zoeyzoey
I’m very insecure with an incredibly low self esteem and my boyfriend knows this. He teases me constantly making jokes about me being ugly or calls me irritating and childish. It’s in a jokey way and I don’t think he’s necessarily trying to be mean but when I say it hurts my feelings he gets irritated and tells me I should be able to take a joke. Or if it gets to a point where it’s relentless and I say stop he doesn’t. I want to be able to be more positive about myself but being told these things even in a jokey way makes me feel like I can’t. Monsoon
Hey @Zoeyzoey Welcome to the Ditch the Label community. I'm one of the digital mentors here and I give advice to those who reach out to us. I'm really sorry to hear about how your boyfriend is teasing you. I'm wondering, have you ever spoken to him about how this makes you feel? If so, how did it go? It’s always, “you should take the joke” or “why can’t you take a joke”, sometimes even “stop making me out to be a bad person” MultiQuote
Monsoon
Hey, Can I ask, what have you said to him when you've told him how you feel? Also, when you have spoken about how you feel, has it been in the moment where he has made a hurtful comment? MultiQuote
