Introducing new Trigger Warnings for Sensitive Content

Keeping you safe and giving you the best possible, and most supportive community experience on our forums is at the core of everything that we do at Ditch the Label. When several users suggested a content warning system several months ago, we felt like it was a really important and hugely needed addition to our platform. We understand that some topics can be triggering and distressing to some users and with this sensitivity in mind, we started to talk behind-the-scenes to try and figure out how we could implement improvements.

How it Works

Today we are thrilled to be launching new Trigger Warnings across the entire community! Starting now, whenever you post a thread or reply, you can opt to 'Include Trigger Warning'. Doing so will automatically flag the content as being sensitive to other users and they can choose to still read it once they have dismissed the notice. We've set it so that you can select one or more trigger warnings to your content, including:

  • 18+
  • Abuse
  • Blood
  • Death
  • Disordered Eating
  • Hate
  • Mental Illness
  • Miscarriage/Abortion
  • Self-Harm
  • Sex
  • Sexual Assault & Rape
  • Suicide
  • Trauma
  • Violence
  • Other

Once you've flagged your content as being triggering, a trigger icon will appear next to the title for threads . Additionally, notices will appear at the top of a triggering thread, in addition to above the post. You must close a trigger warning in order to read the post content.

Automatically filter out content you don't want to see

If you would prefer to strictly not see ANY posts that you consider to be triggering, you can now configure this in your user settings here. By toggling triggers off, you won't even see the threads, blogs or posts of content that has been tagged. Please note that in order for this to be fully effective, we do ask that you familiarise yourself with the above triggers and start to add warnings to any content that falls under the umbrellas.

Our Mentors, Wardens and Staff may also manually flag content when it is considered to be triggering or upsetting to other users. We're also very open to your feedback, along with any ideas for triggers that you feel may be missing.

A huge thanks to developer Dave who helped turn the idea into a reality! Shout out to @WinterPickles & @Asher who first suggested trigger warnings!

An update on Trigger Warnings: you can now choose to disable this feature and not see any trigger warnings if you so wish to. This can be done in your Account Settings.
