How to recover?

Shalom people,

As the only child of a single parent in India,I have been through a lot,if I may say so.

I have been bullied a lot for my body,as I have been obese since childhood. My classmates used slurs to ridicule me and that has had a deep impact on my mental health.

I have been verbally abused for my ideological beliefs, for being a nerd, for being soft-spoken and for not retaliating to their actions.

Physically abused for my non-conventional body shape.

To this date,I tend to skip meals, and have nervous breakdowns when I think about the incidents. I have nightmares, and occasional seizures too.

Is there anyway to get through this?

Because,I cannot bottle up my emotions like Ron Swanson.

Hey there @Mangrove54 ,

I'm so sorry to hear that you have experienced bullying to this degree. You never deserved this and it wasn't your fault. Can I ask did you ever tell anyone at school about what these people were physically assaulting you? There should be rules in place at your school to make sure these people are spoken to about this accordingly.

You were bullied because of other peoples prejudices not because of anything you are or what you look like.

I know it's hard but skipping meals won't help you, it's important to eat regularly to keep up your energy and power your body. Have you ever seen a doctor about the breakdowns or the seizures - I think this could be useful for you to get a prescription for medication that might help you. and to organise to speak with a trained counsellor - is this something you can feel like you can do?

What is working well for you in life right now, what do you do for fun, do you have many hobbies?

The fact that you've come onto here and shared your thoughts with us today shows that you aren't bottling things up and that you are taking active steps towards sharing how you feel and trying to process your passed trauma. CBT or acceptance and commitment therapy could be beneficial to you.

Hang in there, we're all here for you...

@Remi hey.

1) I tried to inform them while still being in school but the attempt was bootless.

2) I asked my mom to take me to a therapist but we hardly manage to make both ends meet. She tries to help me a lot but I am unable to open up.

For instance,I hate the teachers at my college and I tried telling her by ranting but she freaks out and breaks down too. That prevents me from speaking to her about problems.

3) I am a pretty boring person. I tried to learn Turkish but left it midway. I write poems occasionally and recently,as a part of a project,I wrote an alternative ending to a story we were taught in high school. I am a bathroom singer, and try to vent out my emotions by singing hip hop songs.

Anyway, thanks for being the only reply so far!

HEY mangrove54. i understand the fact that your mother never took you to a therapist. i am also an indian and i know that its really hard to tell this stuff to people who thought they knew you so well. but you should know that we are all here for you and the bullies should not affect you. you should stand up to them and reply with a really sarcastic comment like, well people with no brains definitely see sensible people as nerds.

Hey @Mangrove54

It's really important that you see a doctor about your seizures as they can be life-threatening, but there are many treatments available for seizure. We care about your safety here at DTL.

I'm sorry that telling your school didn't sort things out. With therapy, is there a way to get it for free? In many countries, you can be referred to free therapy through your doctor which could be an option to look into. However, in the meantime, you can do loads of things to help work through your emotions such as a thoughts and feelings diary. Why don't you take a look at our support guide here and let me know what you think? https://www.ditchthelabel.org/9-prac...mental-health/.

One of the best things we can do to help our mental health is talking to others and being open which you are doing by coming to us :). I wonder if you would feel able to speak to your friends/family about how you're feeling/what you're going through? If you haven't done this already, it would help you a lot. A problem shared is a problem halved after all.I know from your first post that you've gone though/are going through a lot, and I just wanted to see how you're feeling at the moment?

Speak soon,

-Monsoon

Hey - thanks for your advice :). I would be careful about using sarcastic comments as they might wind up the people doing the bullying which could make the situation worse - just a thought. How are you doing?
