Hello,

I sent a person nudes over snapchat and now they are threatening to send it to all my instagram followers, I only have her snapchat (which is probably fake) and their bitcoin wallet address, is there anything I can do ? I really don't want them to get leaked...

Hey thanks a lot! The person already published the pictures on instagram and created a new account for it, I think there is nothing I can do at this point apart from waiting because they used a fake snapchat account to message me...

Hi @heinzfoot, welcome to Ditch the Label. I'm Aurora and I am one of the support mentors here. I'm so sorry this has happened to you. I can only imagine how stressful it must be for you. Please know that none of this was your fault. You trusted the other person and they broke your trust and that's not OK.Β

I'm glad you found us though. We can definitely support you with this. First of all, we may be able to have their accountΒ  and the photos removed,Β if that's helpful for you. To do this, please either send a link to your account and theirs with screenshots of the conversation where they threaten you to support@ditchthelabel.org or use our online tool, which you can fin hereΒ https://ditchthelabel.org/report/ . Please block out any of the nude content when you send this over.Β

Next, I would advise you toΒ make all your social media accounts private if they are not already and block the individual (be sure to also select the option to block any new accounts they might make). You could even ask your followers to block their account, too. If they know your real name, take this out of any social media usernames. You could also try to find their account on other social media platforms and block them there.Β

Β

You mentioned that they already leaked the pictures on Instagram. Do you mind me asking, if you are sure that they have posted the photos?Β  It's unusual for someone to actually do this as they then can't use this to blackmail you anymore. Also, do you mind me asking if they were blackmailing you - eg asking for money or something else? I wasn't quite sure from the message you sent us. Please know that we are here for you and we can support you through this!

I just made this mistake they want me to give them $100 or they will leak the photo

Hi there,

firstly a warm welcome to DTL, im sorry to hear about this.

firstly, I would suggest you block them. Blocking them will mean they cannot get in contact with you and cannot make anymore threats towards you.

secondly, I would suggest screen- Saving evidence, that could include screenshots of the messages this person is making towards you, and there username so when you go to the police it will be easier for them to track them down.

I would recommend going to the police about this situation. They will be able to support you getting those photos removed from the internet.

I am going to tag the digital mentors here at ditch the label so they can support you.Β
Β

also, DTL can support you.

Hey @DJoseph

Β

I'm one of the digital mentors here and I give advice to those who reach out to us. I appreciate this must be really stressful for you, and I just want you to know you’ve come to the right place and we will do what we can to support you. Here are some tips:

1) If you would find it helpful, we may be able to have their social media account removed if they threatened you over Tumblr, TikTok, Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, or Snapchat. To do this, please send both of your usernames and a screenshot of the conversation where they threaten you to support@ditchthelabel.org. Please block out any of the nude content when you send this over.

2) Make your all your social accounts private if they are not already and block the individual. You could even ask your followers to block the account. If they know your real name, take this out of any social media usernames. You could also try to find their account on other social media platforms and block them there.Β

3) I would report this to the police because their actions may be classed as a crime where you live.Β

Also, I have lots of experience in supporting people who have been blackmailed to pay money in the same way you have. As a general rule, never pay the individual. Their only motivation is money, and when they realise they aren’t going to get it, they have nothing to gain by then leaking the picture, because they know they won’t get money. Therefore, block and ignore all communication. From experience, the more time that passes between blocking and not hearing from them, the less likely it is that the content will be leaked as the individual usually then moves on. What do you think?
