Back to school- how are we feeling?

How is everyone feeling about going back to school?🤔 I know, even as a teacher, I would get nervous in anticipation for the new term, but it was also really exciting to have a fresh start and set new goals!

Hi Gina!

I'm admittedly nervous about going back next week. I don't know Anyone in my lessons and I have this overwhelming urge to WANT to be seen as the boy I am,despite my body bring that of a girl.

I've always wondered how teachers remember everyones name so quickly??

It's definitely a specialist skill haha! It's a difficult first few lessons until you learn them and I'd always be confused when the seating plans changed. Are you looking forward to getting to know your new teachers?

Hey!

It's totally normal to be nervous. Also, I feel a new class is great for this, as you'll have a change to introduce yourself through icebreakers and I'm sure people will see you as you are. Just be yourself and ask others about themselves too, because I'm sure everyone's a bit nervous!

Just had my second day! I'm the only one in my friend group who hasn't cried, so that's...not a good start to the year. They changed the schedule, which makes things weird and confusing.

I guess that warrants a little bit of context. Essentially what happened is that last year the school made us sign up for six options. This year, we got six options instead of the four they were planning for last year. So, nobody could get all six options, so lots of people were stuck with options they really didn’t like, and french is evidently terrible this year. Not only that but they allowed NO changes to schedules and options, so you can’t even try to do something else instead of something  you hate. I actually, for once, got really lucky with options and got the double of an option I did sign up for (computer technology)

Glad to hear you survived your first days back! It sounds like, despite the weird schedule, you've had a fairly good start back yourself? It can be very disorientating and frustrating when they make big changes but I'm sure you'll all settle into it quickly.

I'm glad you got lucky with your options, I think you always perform better when you enjoy the subject. I wish I got to do computer technology when I was at school- very useful! Give French a chance, I learnt Spanish and it's given me great opportunities.

Yep, I had a good first two days.

I agree, I simply cannot get motivated to do things i dread doing. It's not that I don't like french, it's that it made my friend cry from the stress...on the SECOND day. But also, yeah, I don't really like french. I like the language, and I have great respect for people who speak it, but I've had a long history of bad french teachers, and the last three years, I learned the same things again and again, plus I had a french teacher for two years who made us learn french sign language at the same time, which really didn't work, and then she gave us a script in french to memorize without telling us pronunciation or what anything meant. Anyway, I'm just glad that it's not mandatory to take french in junior high. (Because french is an official language of Canada, you have to take it in elementary school)

I realized that i should probably give a (more positive) update :) so, while i have none of my friends in my classes, I’m making new ones pretty steadily. I have really good teachers this year, and other than the two homophobes in my classes, everyone’s pretty good. All my classes are fun, so far with just the right amount of challenge :)

Hey,

I'm glad to hear you're making new friends steadily. It's always daunting to be put into a new situation where you only know a few people or no one at all, but it sounds like you've taken on the challenge and you're now thriving. Well done :)

This is great to hear! Change can be scary but it also helps us grow and become more confident in ourselves. I'm glad you're feeling just the right amount of challenge too, that's when we learn best :)
