Supporting your depressed SO

Hey Lulu,

Thank you for coming to us with this really important question. It can be so hard to know what to do when someone so close to us is going through a hard time, especially if they don't open up to us. I think that one of the best things you can do is to just let them do things in their own time, and if they aren't opening up right now, to know that that's okay, and that in time, hopefully they will open up more. Listening is one of the best interventions out there, and if you're ever stuck for what to do, it can be really powerful and helpful to just ask the person what they need from you. What do you think?

Also, it's interesting that you say you seem to irritate him when you try to be there for him. Can I ask, what makes you think you're irritating him?
