A girls Childhood (A Poem)

Why are girls always told

"Childhood was a simpler time"

This will be harder to explain

Now that I have to speak in rhyme

Childhood wasn't simpler

Not even a little bit

We were all told

How to talk and drink and sit

How many times were you told

That your friend which was a boy

Would be the one

Who would eternally bring you joy?

How many time were you taught

How to be a perfect wife

While a man went out

And supplied your entire life?

How many times were you scolded

For playing in the dirt?

How many times were you ignored

When your feeling got hurt?

How many times were you told

When boys would all rush

To pick on and bully you

That boy just had a crush?

How many times were you forced

To wear that pretty dress?

How times were you told

To act like a perfect princess?

How many times were you told

To wait and be saved

By a prince who will help you

For the rest of your days?

How many times were you told

To discard your true self

Because a man only wants

A girl like a barbie on the shelf?

I say we ignore all the things

We have been told

Be reckless, be careless.

Be colorful and bold

Be sassy, be bratty

Be independent and brave

Be funny, be goofy

Be the one you will save

"Childhood was simpler"

That's what they all say

But you and me both know

That's just not the way
