BookLover7654
I'm REALLY anxious because I'm a freshman and going into High School. Everything is new and today I went to my first "Rookie Camp" in order to get started with High School band. I have band Monday through Thursday every week in August until school starts, and I'm really worried about preforming and making sure I stay on top of things. The seniors, juniors, and sophomores will all be there and I don't want to embarrass myself when the full band meets for the first time on Thursday. I know I'm still learning, as well as my peers, but I can't help but be anxious about all of this. I have a counselor, and I've learned lots of ways to manage my anxiety, but because this is such a big transition in my life, I need some advice and support from other people who may have been in the same situation, because I know everyone can get anxious about change. Can someone please tell me what to do to help calm down and just enjoy the process??

As you already mentioned, most of us feel worried when we join something new and it's really common to feel like that. There will be lots of others there, who will have similar worries to you. You mentioned that you've learnt lots of ways to manage your anxiety. I'm just wondering if there is anything in particular you learnt, that works well for you? I guess I just think to myself that everything will turn out okay as well as that other people are going through it too. I still feel insecure, even though I'm sure it's normal. Also, am I right in thinking that you've had a few band sessions by now. How did it go?
