I wrote a nonbinary version of the Ken & Barbie song

So, for those of you who don’t know, I’m nonbinary (AFAB) but I also have enbyphobic parents. So I decided to write a (full) nonbinary parody of this (which has been trending on LGBTQ tik tok). Consider this as a sort of vent (maybe), but I also just re-wrote it for my enjoyment. Enjoy!

Tw: Censored swearing

Not Ken or Barbie

One little kid

Played with only girls on the playground

Just like the rest

Didn't stick out from the crowd

But deep inside themself

They knew that they were different

But they pushed it down

'Cause nobody would even listen

Their parents always saying

"Girl, when you grow up

You're gonna be a nice woman

Make sure you’re pretty enough

You'll be living a life

Like Barbie and Ken

Come on suck it up

And forget this nonsense"

What if they’re not Ken or Barbie?

Why should they have to say sorry?

Tell me do you even listen

To all the dumb sh*t you're slippin'

We can be who we want to

Don't say we’re not supposed to

If they’re not Ken or Barbie

They don’t ever have to say sorry

No, not to you

Not to me

Not to anyone, anyone, anyone

No, not to you

Not to me

Not to anyone, anyone, anyone

15 years old

Feeling like a stranger at home

Keeping their head down low

Hide away so that nobody will know

Avoiding mum and dad

When they're asking

"Are you someone’s girlfriend?"

'Cause Lord forbid they see

Their true identity

Their parents always saying

"Girl, when will you see

You'll be happy I know

You’re a woman to-be

You'll be such a great Barbie

Just gotta find yourself

Make sure you act like a lady

It's what you're born to be

What if they’re not Ken or Barbie?

Why should they have to say sorry?

Tell me do you even listen

To all the dumb sh*t you're slippin'

We can be who we want to

Don't say we’re not suppose to

If they’re not Ken or Barbie

They don’t ever have to say sorry

No, not to you

Not to me

Not to anyone, anyone, anyone

Not to you

Not to me

Not to anyone, anyone, anyone

No, no

They don’t have to say sorry

No, no

They’re never gonna say sorry

They never wanted to be Ken or Barbie

They never ever have to say sorry

Nobody is gonna listen

To all the dumb sh*t you're slippin'

We can be who we want to

Don't say they’re not supposed to

They’ll always not be Ken or Barbie

And they don’t ever have to say sorry

To you
