Coming Out

I have been questioning for about 3 years now. My high school was pretty hick and unaccepting when it comes to anyone who doesn't conform to "social norms". when I first started feeling this way, I talked to one of my other friends who was bi and he really tried to help me feel comfortable with myself. after this, I just kind of suppressed all of my feelings and went about life. however, this past year was my first year in college and I realized that I still felt these things after kissing a girl at a party. I don't know how to come out to my mom. I know she's accepting but I don't know how im going to bring myself to look at her and tell her I've been lying to myself and everyone else for years. Im not ready to tell any of my friends or anyone other than my mom. I don't really know what to do and just need some guidance.Β

Well the first thing you need to do is get comfortable with the fact that you are bi and thenΒ  you can talk to your mom.You can plan what your going to do or just come out and say it.It'll surely be hard but"If you don't try you already failed " so show your true self girl and there's nothing more you can do

Hey @kelpcake

Welcome to our community. My name is Monsoon and I'm one of the digital mentors here, meaning I give advice to the community membersΒ :)

I'm glad to hear your mom will be accepting and I can imagine that's a great source of comfort for you. Even though you know that, it's completely normal to not know how to do it. I guess the world assumes everyone is straight, and once you know you're LGBTQ+, it can be daunting to come out, and I guess that a normal part of it for many people is hiding yourself for a range of reasons. I'm wondering, would you say she's an understanding person? Do you think she'll be able to see why you kept it hidden away?

I think she's very understanding, caring, and accepting. I think that she'll question why I didn't tell her sooner but will understand that this is one of, if not the most, difficult things I've ever had to do.Β

Hey there,

Yeah, it sounds like you're going to have a really supportive coming out experience :)Β

Do you think you'll do it soon then?Β

Hey,

Well, just take however long you need to decide. Remember, there's no rush and you can go at your own pace completely. What do you think?Β
